The Morpho achilles, also known as the Blue-banded Morpho, is a large and magnificent butterfly native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in countries such as Brazil, Peru and Panama. It is particularly easy to recognize thanks to its shimmering, metallic blue wing tips, which reflect sunlight and make the butterfly highly visible as it flies through the forest. The upper surface of the wings is an intense blue with dark edges, while the underside is brown with eye spots - an effective camouflage that protects against predators. When resting, the butterfly keeps its wings closed, allowing it to blend into the shady rainforest environment.
